they will find out if there is a problem before they turn it over to you and YOU find the trouble. But the only problem with that is the likelihood of them abusing the car is very high. One member here lost a beautiful TT to some halfwit car washer at a dealership who wrapped it around a telephone pole. I could care less about the gas consumption, I would have spent the gas test driving it myself too.. Saves you the time if they do it. The thing about mechanics doing work on your car is that you need to build a good relationship with that individual and request them every time you go to have work done. Small businesses already fits this bill, but this is just general advice for those of you taking them to dealerships. You need to be able to trust them like a brother. Bring them a 6 pack of their favorite beer and let them know you really appreciate all the good work they do on your car. They will be much more likely to pay more attention do detail and not cut corners for you.. They will even cut your breaks on pricing that they normally wouldn't do for the average joe who just 'drops off the car'. I think the reason a lot of mechanics are so shitty is that most people dont consider a mechanic a, shall we say, a high status quo job. On the contrar, it is quite the opposite IMHO. Who the hell is society anyway? Its the people with money who set the quo, not the highly skilled and talented individuals who actually got us all out of caves a long time ago. Some some damn appreciation for your mechanic, he'll remember you and be happy to work on the car that belongs to the really nice guy who is a pleasure to deal with. People who drop it off and just say, "Its making a funny noise, getting bad gas mileage and doesnt seem as fast. FIX IT" need to take a lesson in people skills.. DISCLAIMER: I am not saying everyone is lacking people skills with their mechanic. I am simply giving my take on the situation based on what I know works. I built a great relationship with the parts manager of my local nissan shop. I get stuff for wholesale, all my friends get wholsale too. Just mention you are a friend of Ash and your'e in the money. Bob is a great guy personally, great sense of humor, and a great outlook on life in general considering what he has to put up with at work. (hint: top heavy administration).. I send him a honey ham every thanksgiving and get him something for christmas to show my appreciation.. I think the world needs more of this kind of exchange between people. I just wonder how long it will take people to fully realize that you are in control of your own world and that what you give to it comes back several fold. Too many people carry a lot of baggage and it ruins interpersonal relationship when all they need to do it just let the past be, learn how to avoid bad situations and make the best of your day. You only have so many and life it way too short to be pissed off all the time. I'm done with my "class of .. whatever year you graduated speech.. Now I just need some mild breakbeat background music and I'd have a one hit wonder for sure.
